Pets adjusting to a new member of the family

January 6, 2017

A new baby in the house means a lot of new sights, sounds and smells for the other members of your family, including your pets. Here are some things to think about as you prepare to bring a baby home:

What changes will happen to the dog's routine when the baby arrives? Think about these and start implementing them a month or so before the baby arrives.

What new smells and sounds will the pets be exposed to? Find a way to link some of these smells and sounds to rewards for the pet.

Make sure you brush up on some basic behavior and training. Commands like sit, stay, leave it, drop it, relaxing in a crate, and in greeting people politely are going to make life easier for you and your pet when the baby comes.

See what the ASPCA has to say about it here. And good luck!
